It was important to reflect Faurot’s values-driven approach into their visual identity. They bring solutions to the table while forging trusted relationships that stand the test of time. They’re good, honest people who love to collaborate with good, honest people. The “Faurot way” keeps everyone aligned and accountable as they navigate the process as a team.

The Faurot logotype design was inspired by the dovetail joint — a classic woodworking joinery technique. Dovetails are solid and reliable, perfectly expressing the Faurot brand core: Good honest building, from start to finish. 

Our first impulse was to turn the arms of the letter F into a dovetail form. To bring out the Faurot values of honesty, friendliness, and transparency, the sans serif Montserrat was selected as the base typeface. Its bold geometric forms are simple yet well-designed.

The pins of a dovetail are equal in width & spacing, so we adjusted the form of the F accordingly, then flared the arms. Early iterations of the full logotype included flares on A, U, R, & T. After consulting master type designer Steve Matteson, and through collaboration with the client and the rest of the creative team, we decided less was more.
